Around Cornwall on CB125F Day 4 – Slapton to Bodmin
It was nice place to stay in Slapton but the time came to move on. My new destination was Bodmin, the first place in Cornwall.
Bodmin is almost exactly in the middle between the North and South costs of Cornwall. Either way it is fairly short distance to Fowey, a lovely small costal town or to Port Isaac in the North.
The planned route was around 69 miles and it went over the ferry crossing in Plymouth (the cheapest in the whole trip – £0.40). Then a brief visit to the Restormel Castle. It took me 4 and half hours to reach Bodmin. This included time in Restormel, which was a small diversion from the route.
As in the previous legs, I had marked short stops or just rout markers. I didn’t have to rush as my only clocked stop was in Restormel. My booking was at 14:00 but still I have arrived before 13:00. What I didn’t know was the time in Plymouth waiting for the ferry and on the ferry itself. Hence my early arrival. All happened so quickly and I was back on the road in no time.
Knowing that I had plenty of time, I stopped at BP petrol station in a Looe for a coffee and a snack. The place is located in the East Looe River valley, with a bridge and many boats moored up along the river banks. With sun still shining between thickening clouds it was really picturesque view. I have no idea why I did not took a single picture.
Again, it was very nice ride along lovely roads and in dry weather until the Castle. Kind of thick drizzle started, there and by the time I have arrived at my B&B (Castle Canyke Farm) in Bodmin I was well wet. I was too early and my hosts were away. There was nowhere to hide from the rain and I was getting hungry. So I went to some shopping area where I found a place called Callywith Table Table. Normally they take bookings only but because it was the first day they have opened after lockdown, I was given a table.
On the menu there was a Lasagne Bolognese, so I have decided to have it and a very good coffee. Had a taste for a beer but still having some riding to do in the rain, it was something to be left for later.
For the next day I planned a bit of exploring towards the South coast and this included an Eden Project. As for the route, here is a map.
